Purpose:
The City of Brentwood Youth Commission Scholarship program has been established to benefit worthy and capable graduating seniors who are planning to further their education, are in need of financial assistance, and are City of Brentwood residents.
This award will provide one scholarship for $1,500, one scholarship for $1,000 from the Youth Commission, and one scholarship for $500 from the Police Activities League (PAL), each to a student who completes the attached application, meets the requirements listed below, and is the best candidate for the award. Students currently serving on the City of Brentwood Youth Commission are not eligible to apply for the scholarship.
Applicants must:
- Reside within the City of Brentwood city limits
- Be a graduating senior during this application period
- Demonstrate at least a cumulative 3.0 grade point average (submit copy of current transcript)
- Submit one (1) letter of recommendation (from a teacher, counselor, employer, etc.)
- Submit income verification demonstrating financial need from the preceding year
- Submit a typed essay responding to the following statement:
- The purpose of the Youth Commission Scholarship is to reward students who have excelled at the high school level and are pursuing higher levels of education. Please explain how you have excelled during high school, your plans for higher education, your future career and life goals, and how this scholarship will aid you in accomplishing said goals.
- Submit completed application and required information by Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.
Scholarship Recipients:
Upon selection, the scholarship recipients must provide a college letter of acceptance or proof of class registration in order to receive the disbursement check. The check will be issued at the City of Brentwood Parks and Recreation Department, 35 Oak Street, Brentwood.
Qualified applicants will be considered without regard to race, color, ancestry, religion, national origin, age, sex, disability, medical condition or marital status. In accordance with the Americans with Disability Act (ADA), if special accommodations are necessary at any stage of the application process, please notify the Youth Commission at (925) 516-5363.

- Copy of parent’s utility bill or
- Copy of driver’s license
- Copy of current high school transcript
- One (1) letter of recommendation (from a teacher, counselor, employer, etc.)
- Income Verification
- Tax return from previous tax year or
- Employer verification
- Typed essay in response to the following statement:

Please explain how you have excelled during high school, your plans for higher education, your future career and life goals, and how this scholarship will aid you in accomplishing said goals.
