Commercial Property Maintenance
On May 9, 2023, the Brentwood City Council adopted Chapter 8.38 "Commercial Property Maintenance" into the Brentwood Municipal Code. This ordinance requires all commercial property owners and business operators to maintain minimum standards. This prevents these properties and buildings from becoming public nuisances due to visual blight, safety hazards, and other undesirable conditions.
Abandoned Shopping Cart Prevention & Retrieval
In conjunction with the new Commercial Property Maintenance requirements, on May 9, 2023 the Brentwood City Council also adopted Chapter 5.74 “Lost, Stolen, or Abandoned Shopping Carts” into the Brentwood Municipal Code. As with many other communities, the City of Brentwood has experienced a significant increase in abandoned shopping carts. These carts, removed without authorization, often end up in our parks, along our sidewalks, and in our streets. This issue not only adds blight to our community, but also affects local business through the loss of their asset.
This ordinance pertains to all business owners providing shopping carts to their customers. In addition, businesses with 25 or more shopping carts are now required to provide a Shopping Cart Prevention and Retrieval Plan by July 10, 2023.
