In April of 2008 the Brentwood City Council passed an ordinance to establish a periodic rental property inspection for residential housing. The intent of the ordinance is to encourage owners of residential rental units to maintain their properties with the goal of preventing situations that could adversely affect the quality of life in the City.

Owners of rental property located in Brentwood are required to obtain a Business Tax Certificate. A letter is sent to all property owners whose property may be subject to this requirement. If you have received a letter or notice, you are required to respond within the specified timeline listed on the letter or notice. You must submit either the Property Verification Form or the Business Tax Certificate Application-Rental. When a new Business Tax Certificate is issued, an exterior inspection of the property will be conducted. You can review the common concerns on the Rental Inspection Program Checklist.

A great resource for both property owners and tenants to refer to is our Common Concerns Flyers.

For additional information regarding the Business Tax Certificate and associated fees, please see Business Tax Certificate or call a business tax certificate representative at (925) 516-5480.
