What is "Tell a Cop"

The Brentwood Police Department (BPD) is dedicated to the preservation of safe streets and trails. The growth of our city has caused many side effects including an increase in vehicle and pedestrian traffic. It is our goal to make our network of streets and trails as safe as possible. To reach that goal we offer the citizens of Brentwood access to the Brentwood Police Department Traffic Safety Unit (TSU) through our Tell-a-Cop hotline number at (925) 809-7826.

What to Report

Anything that presents a safety hazard to the public and occurs in the City of Brentwood including, but not limited to the following:

  • Reckless Drivers
  • Excessive Speed
  • Unsafe U-turns
  • Failing to Stop at Stop Signs
  • Driving Under the Influence of alcohol or drugs
  • Unsafe Road Conditions
  • Unsafe Trail Conditions
  • Motorized Vehicles Causing a Hazard

Please give the following information:

  • Date, time and location
  • Brief synopsis of what occurred
  • The license plate number (if a vehicle was involved)
  • A description of the involved parties and / or vehicles

What Happens After Making a Report

In cases where we have a license plate number, the registered owner of the vehicle will receive a letter from the BPD containing a strong "admonishment". In cases where the violation is an ongoing problem, the TSU will make an effort to contact the violator by providing extra patrol in the area. In some cases, especially speed violations, the BPD radar trailer may be placed in the area.

Please report only incidents that occur in the City of Brentwood on the Tell-a-Cop hotline. Unincorporated areas outside the city limits are the jurisdiction of the California Highway Patrol (their hotline is 1-800-tellCHP). Problems in other cities should be reported to their local police departments.
