Senate Bill (SB)1383 Short-Lived Climate Pollutants Implementation

SB1383 mandates a 75% reduction of organics waste disposal in landfills by 2025 and a 20% recovery of waste surplus food by 2025. The City of Brentwood is currently researching the best path forward for compliance with this new law. We are exploring various processing options and collection methods to find the most cost-efficient and sustainable solution to this new mandate.

Currently, no changes to residential nor commercial services are planned for the near term. When there is a change, customers will be directly notified and more information will be posted on this City website.

The City anticipates some changes later in 2024. However, commercial businesses are free to subscribe to organics collection services with a third-party hauler or to self-haul, donate their organics to food banks or non-profits.
